WHAT IS UNIQUE TO THE STUDY IN VANCOUVER?
In addtion to the main CHILD Study assessments, Dr. Turvey and colleagues in Vancouver are interested in a more indepth assessment of stressful events and will ask mothers to participate in a detailed life stress telephone interview. This interview will complement the stress assessment questionaires given to all mothers participating in each centre.

WHAT IS UNIQUE TO THE STUDY IN EDMONTON?
In addition to the main CHILD Study assessments, Dr. Mandhane has developed the Sleep, Learning, Education and the Environment (SLEEP-E) project to study the role of sleep disordered breathing in cognitive growth and development.
Study members who volunteer for the CHILD Study in Edmonton will have the option to participate in assessments of the child's sleep habits to see how this affects learning and development and how it relates to the development of asthma and allergies.

Dr. Mathew Sermer, a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, will be heading the CHILD Study recruitment at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Elaine Herer, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology will be heading the CHILD Study recruitment at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre.
WHAT IS UNIQUE TO THE STUDY IN TORONTO?
Dr. Subbarao is interested in assessment of pulmonary function and infectious exposures in early infancy. Study members who volunteer for the CHILD Study will be given an opportunity to participate in specialized assessments of lung inflammation and lung function. During the first year of life your child will be closely monitored for cold and flu-like symptoms.
